0800 Payphone Opt In

Last updated by Annabel Bowe on September 30, 2019 08:38

Communications providers such as Barritel are charged a levy by BT for calls made to freephone 0800/0808 numbers from payphones.

To cover our costs, we therefore must apply a surcharge to these calls when billing our customers.

The surcharge is currently 79 pence per minute. This is in addition to the standard charge for the call.

To protect our customers from unexpected charges our standard policy is to block all inbound calls to freephone numbers that originate from payphones. This means you will not be exposed to the higher charges. Payphone users will not be able to contact you however.

If it is important that your freephone numbers are reachable from payphones and you are willing to accept the increased charges you can opt in to receive these calls and we will remove the block.

Please note that this can only be done on an account basis and not for individual numbers that you have.

To opt in, please send your request by email to customerservices@barritel.com
